Amazon Web Services Summit 2015
The Amazon Web Services Summit 2015 took place on 16th and 17th of December in Shanghai.
MCON Group is the first European rooted AWS Consulting Partner in China and our colleagues Serena Song, Jack Sun and Kane Chen received its partnership certificate from Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon Web Services.
Amazon Web Services is bringing its world class services to China and has been showing and demonstrating its vision and services to the audience.
Reducing infrastructure cost tremendously, providing platforms for agile developments within minutes and running autoscaling lowcost environments is now possible in China.
The event not only featured a technical side, but also shared the vision and future planning in a high level management for the large Chinese market.
MCON Group with more than 7 years of experience in China is happy to open this opportunities especially to foreign companies in China.
Happy Mid-autumn Festival 2015!
This festival is held on the 15th of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar. It is a good occasion for reunions among families and relatives to eat mooncakes and watch the moon, a symbol of harmony and unity.

Last week was extremely exciting for MCON GROUP, serviceplan and DAT! The long awaited day came the last weekend of June when we finally moved into our brand new office!
The whole task of moving was very delicate and required a lot of patience, responsibility and care. The result was even better than expected! In record time we manage to have all our assets installed and ready to continue delivering even bigger WOW’s!
Simply said, our new office is AMAZING!
Check out some of the highlights of our new office over the last week and some of the events that we already have running, such as our 1st. ‘Company Breakfast’ and our traditional ‘Friday Company Meeting’, now bigger, better and funnier. Enjoy!
We found “The Place”!
It’s been almost 7 years since we kicked off our first office in e-Tower in Guanghua Lu. In 2009 we rented a single office space on the 12th floor and made it our home. In 2010 as we expand we acquired a new office on the same floor. In 2011, we opened a 3rd office on the 22nd floor, then our 4th office also on 22nd floor in 2012. In 2013 our JV partner serviceplan officially joined us, and we opened our 5th office also on the 22nd floor. In less than one year later, by the middle of 2014, we opened 2 new offices on the 15th and 16th floors! That’s a total of 7 offices distributed over 4 floors of e-Tower!
Although it’s been a fun place to work from right the beginning, representing the real growth and development of MCON GROUP in China to where we are now, we soon realized that with such growth, and certain limitations having offices in different locations, we wanted something bigger, nicer and unique to represent who we are.
A group from CRM and our partner agency serviceplan, started looking for a place that in itself would define what we stand for: Delivering a WOW! Also that could show that diversity, innovation, creativity, flexibility, collaboration, trust and respect could all be reflected in physical space.
Although the search wasn’t easy: WE FOUND THAT PLACE……“THE PLACE”.

In July 2015 we will move into a new office location not far from the CBD. Our new office, which is the whole 24th floor of the South Tower in The Place Mall, is undergoing huge renovations to make our office the perfect working environment!
We are all very excited and we would like to extend our excitement by sharing a bit of the whole construction process to date.

Security issue: GHOST
Last week a security issue has been reevaluated in regards to the urgency, the issue is know since 2013 but was not considered security relevant before.
Ghost is a buffer overflow that affects any system running glibc-2.2 or earlier. The official function in the GNU C Library that allows for the buffer overflow is _nss_hostname_digits_dots().
To remediate this issue, we already patched our load balancers and restarted most of the relevant services.

During our upcoming patch night on 12. February all our systems will patched with the latest libraries to remediate this issue.

Shellshock annoucement

Wie Sie sicher der Presse entnommen haben sind fast alle Unix/Linux Systeme von einer Sicherheitslücke in der Standardshell Bash betroffen (CVE-2014-6271), alle Systeme sind bereits gepatcht worden, gestern bereits mit dem ersten Patch und auch heute mit dem Nachfolgepatch.

as you might have seen in the news, there is a vulnerability on almost all Unix/Linux Systems in the Standardshell Bash (CVE-2014-6271), all systems are already patched, yesterday already with the first path and today with the additional fix.

A Senior IT System Engineer needed in Beijing
Core Requirements
- Solid experience in setting up managing and maintaining Linux systems
- Good to advanced familiarity with server software such as apache, tomcat and MySQL
- Hands-on Experience with setup & maintenance of physical and virtualized hosting environments
- Support of core network services, including knowledge from minimum of 2 from the following (DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SNMP services)
- Hands-on Administration of Virtual Machines running Linux/Windows within the VMware Virtual Infrastructure environment (ESXi / vSphere)
- Experience creating and maintaining network and systems documentation
- Experience creating and presenting project handoff technical documentation
- Proficient in English
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Bachelor degree in Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer science or Electronics or related areas – or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Network Systems Administrator
- Linux Certifications or equivalent experience
- Firewalls / VPN knowledge, preferable on Linux
- Experience running medium scale Linux/UNIX production environments, preferably as part of an online service provider environment – e.g. mailing and proxy servers
- Windows Server e.g. Active Directory
- Good to advanced knowledge in high availability configurations
- Experience in cost estimations, project management, problem solving and leadership skills
- Familiarity with large scale infrastructure management, e.g. puppet
- Proactive in a fast-paced environment with excellent problem solving and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills
- Work well under pressure
